The past few days have been a whirlwind - saying goodbye to the markes and my host family, moving into a new place in a GORGEOUS part of town, celebrating Easter Sub-Saharian style (we met at a small church and sang amazing songs.... even siyahamba and nkosi sikelele!), and last but definitely not least, STARTING real research. But that is much easier said than done. This morning I tried to meet with a student from les Comores (small islands near Madagascar) to interview him about his experiences as a foreign student in Morocco, and ended up just missing him at our meeting place (the national theater) and now for the past couple hours have been playing phone tag and failing miserably at meeting online or on msn. its amazing to me how difficult it is to communicate here - between language or nuance barriers, no minutes on anyone's cell phone, teleboutiques that dont take certain coins, and internet that is hit or miss... its hard to believe that things actually run as smoothly as they do in the States. And that we so easily take that for granted. So I will continue to wait... and hopefully get on with my interview today. Insha alla. (God willing)
